Let 'er Buck: Original Photographic Art by Melinda Moranda - Image: Lake County Rodeo, Lakeport, California 2008

Lake County Rodeo... 1946?

No, not 1946 (actually 2008!). I printed this image to remind people of the importance of the old west - the people and the lifestyle within our community of Lake County. I wanted to remind people to look through their belongings, and contribute to the Lake County Historical Western Museum: Images of the early days of Lake County... from the 1800's up through the 1980's. We currently are working on all areas of the lake, but am in dire need of photographic images, old brands, and other western items from the Middletown and Cobb areas of Lake County.
YES, ALL PHOTOGRAPHS WILL BE RETURNED. Ranch brands, too, will be returned: we only need the brands to make a copy of the brand's image on wood (not necessarily the brand, itself, although that would be nice!) If you have an item to contribute or loan, please feel free to cal lme at 707-263-0259.

It's not too often that we actually get to see a bull stand on his nose... but such was the case this Saturday, July 11th when rodeo fans actually witnessed "Sniffer Bulls" in action - a special breed of bulls from the Earl Green Rodeo Company of Eastern Canada. Sniffer Bulls are considered the easiest of the rodeo bulls to ride, since their hind legs never touch the ground. The bull rider is actually treated to a gentle rocking and full body massage, while enjoying the wafting scent of lavender (which is tied behind the bulls ears and tail). "Quite enjoyable," stated Billy Bob, who took 89 points on this bull, Pugs. "I can't wait to draw another Sniffer Bull... my back has been bothering me for some time now, and I can't seem to get rid of this tension headache I've had for the past week."
